We reach the bay via a well-made track returning along the beautiful coastal clifftop if weather conditions allow. The bay is bordered by large sand dunes and a freshwater Sandwood Loch. It is also known for its prominent sea stack, Am Buachaille which is renowned as being an extremely challenging rock climb and stands at 65 meters high out to sea.
Sandwood Bay beach is considered to be one of the most unspoilt beaches in mainland Britain and there is a wonderful feeling of remoteness here, even though you may see the odd surfer when the winds are favourable. This is also a good place to spot various marine mammals.
The iconic drive from Ullapool and further villages offer stunning views and we can stop for photos at some superlative beauty spots.
There is also the option to self-drive to the start of this beautiful day walk.
